WHY ADOPT?

You may be wondering why it is better to adopt a guinea pig from a reputable rescue as opposed to simply going out and buying one from a pet store. Staff at pet shops can be unknowledgeable and guinea pigs are therefore often housed inadequately. Sometimes they are kept in cages that are too small or they may be housed with rabbits. Housing with rabbits can be dangerous. There have been instances where rabbits have accidentally killed a guinea pig with one kick. Guinea pigs in pet shops are usually fed unsuitable food which can result in health problems once you get the guinea pig home. Pet shops are also renowned for missexing guinea pigs and this leads to unexpected and potentially risky pregnancies once your guinea pig comes home.

It is a myth that guinea pigs which come from rescues are older and have problems. In fact the reality is much different:

What can a rescue offer?

Healthy guinea pigs: Reputable rescues are more familar with the health and anatomy of guinea pigs and all guinea pigs that come to us are treated for parasites and any other infections before they are allowed to be rehomed.

Friendly guinea pigs: Guinea pigs that come from our rescue are usually more friendly as they will have become used to frequent handling.

Pigs with personality: We get to know each guinea pig that comes in personally and this helps us to pair you with with one that is right for you.

Guinea pigs of all ages: Not every guinea pig that comes to us is old. We have guinea pigs of all ages, including some guinea pigs that are born at the rescue and the time comes when they need rehoming aswell.
