BUTTERSCOTCH |

Butterscotch was a very special pig. He was only with us for a relatively short time (just two years) but he touched our hearts in a very big way.
We got Butterscotch in 2003 and it soon emerged that Butter was a very sickly pig. Despite our best efforts, he suffered from reoccuring teeth issues and had to be operated on twice to correct his teeth. After the operations, Butterscotch required
periods of handfeeding and because of this handfeeding, Rachel and Butterscotch bonded even more (if possible) than with
any other pigs Rachel had owned.
In the summer of 2005, Butter began to display symptoms of a respiratory infection. His breathing was wheezy and rattling and he had also lost weight despite his appetite appearing healthy. X-rays confirmed that Butter had an infection which had caused his lungs to become full of liquid. Butter was prescribed different courses of antibiotics as well as being housed in a nebuliser
at times when his breathing was especially bad. Unfortunately we were unable to save this precious guinea pig. We would
have been able to keep him alive but his quality of life was becoming questionable.
Butterscotch was put to sleep on Friday 25th November 2005. Despite being an obviously weak guinea pig, Butterscotch was clearly very happy. He would greet us every morning, wheeking for his morning veggies and would always come out of his
hiding places to see us. We miss him everyday and it is in his memory that Lymm Guinea Pig Rescue has
been set up.
