ADOPTING A GUINEA PIG |
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR DECISION TO ADOPT A GUINEA PIG!
Guinea pigs are highly sociable animals and make great pets. Below are the steps we go through when rehoming a guinea pig.
Contacting the rescue
You can contact the rescue by email or by telephone. If you email us, please put in your email the following details:
Your name
A contact telephone number
The number of guinea pigs you wish to adopt
The name of the guinea pig(s) you are interested in (if you have seen one of our guinea pigs on the website)
The preferred sex of the guinea pig(s)
Who the guinea pig is for
If you currently have a guinea pig or any other animals
If you prefer to contact the rescue by telephone we will go through these questions with you then.
Visiting the rescue
Shortly after you contact us, we will arrange for you to come and visit the rescue and to see if we have any guinea pigs to suit your requirements. We will try and be as flexible as possible regarding times.
You can also use this opportunity to ask us any questions on guinea pig care. You can also have a look at some of our cages and see how we do things. We can also arrange to help you design a cage similar to ours.
Home visit
Once you have found a guinea pig (or guinea pigs!) you wish to adopt, we will arrange to visit you at your home. Please have everything (cage, food, hay etc) set up ready for this visit as it will enable us to see how the guinea pig will live once it is with you.
Handover
Once the necessary preparations have been made for your new pet, we shall adopt out the guinea pig. You will need to sign an adoption contract, stating that you will care for the guinea pig or return it to us if you are unable to offer care.
When you have your new guinea pig do not hesitate to contact the rescue if you need any help or advice in the future. We are always happy to offer advice and to take the guinea pig back if you find you are no longer able to care for it.
